Beach resort in Isla Mujeres.
The 2-bedroom suites sleep families of 4, 5, or 6. Two nice pools (one hot, one cold) are right on the beach. Shops and restaurants are a 2 minute walk away. The beach in front of the hotel (Playa Norte) is calm and shallow and probably the most kid-friendly beach in Mexico.

  1. Resort for Family of 5

HI! I have been researching all inclusive resorts for my family to go next month in April! We are a family of 5 (9,10 and 12 year girls) and an active 81 y/o nana. Snorkeling is a priority for all! We are looking into Akumal. What is the best all inclusive resorts for us? We had considered Isla Mujeres but really want jungle feel, sea turtles and swimming beach. I would be happy just sitting at beach but… Is the Grand Sirenis resort a good option? Price is good for 2 jr suites. Mixed reviews. Any other place you have been in Akumal that we should consider? Sandos Carosol worth it? Not as nice beach and rooms rundown. Any information helps. Thanks for your time.

Sandos is not in Akumal (it’s north of Playa del Carmen) but does have a water park with slides which is great for kids. The Sirenis is just north of Akumal and has a large lazy river (but no slides). If you really want to be in Akumal then the Akumal Caribe is hard to beat (though not an all inclusive). Great beach and walking distance to some shops and restaurants (many of the hotels along here do not have anything within walking distance and that can feel isolating).

  2. Hotel for Family of 4 on Isla Mujeres

Do you have any other recommendations of where to stay on Isla Mujeres? I will be travelling with my husband and two young kids (2 and 4) and we are going in the next three weeks. Na Balam is fully booked.

The Ixchel is very nice – it doesn’t quite have the character of Na Balam but feels a bit more luxurious (if that makes any sense). It’s got a great spot on North Beach (wonderful sand, great for kids) and is an short walk from shops and places to eat.

  3. Isla Hotel with 4 Year Old

    Hi there,
Quick question please. Heading there in just a few days.
Do you know which hotel is best for a 4 year old?
I know you said Na Balam has a play structure around which is important for us.
    What about the other 2?
Also what’s the best method of transportation around Isla Mujeres?
    Are golf cart rentals availabale?
    Thanks a lot

    1. Mexico Dave The Hotel Expert

Unless something has changed recently, no, the others don’t have a play structure. Golf carts are everywhere, easy to rent, and the only way to get around the island.

  4. Itinerary for Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum

Hi Dave. We’re a family of three, mum & dad and our son at 4,5yrs. We’re heading for Mexico this July for 3+weeks. Starting with a few days in Cancun before taking up on your tips for Isla Mujeres. I guess 3 days here is enough? And then; where to go, and for how long each place. we’ve been researching Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Tulum. We’re finding both Playa del Carmen and especially Tulum very pricey, if one want to stay at those special places with a bit of soul and atmosphere. Any tips for where and how long?

    1. Mexico Dave The Hotel Expert

They’re all great places but Tulum is my favorite. I would roughly spend a similar amount of time in all of them. Tulum beach hotels can be very expensive but you can save money by staying Tulum Town (Pueblo). Though you’re not walking distance to the beach there is a fun local vibe and lots of cheap great food in town.

  5. Day Trip to Tulum

    Hi Dave,
We are headed to Isla Mujeres in April. Do you think it’s worth going to Tulum for the day for snorkel and sites or just stay on the island and rent a boat for some snorkel? We have a 6 year old and plan to stay at the Nautibeach Condos. Thank you!

That’s a long way to go for snorkeling. But the ruins at Tulum, Chichen Itza, and Coba are definitely worth a day trip.
